Darksiders II Preview: Death Strikes

We’re in a bit of a lull before the summer blockbusters begin to emerge, and my excitement is beginning to ramp up for Darksiders II. The first in the series by developer Vigil Games had players stepping into the shoes of one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse: War. Through a series of exciting Zelda-esque puzzle dungeons, a plethora of brutal weapon, and an open world begging to be explored, Darksiders delivered stellar game. It still sits among my top games of all time, and I am sorely tempted to play through it again before Darksiders II hits the scene.

In Darksiders II, Vigil has promised bigger and better, and what I have seen so far looks like they are well on their way to deliver. In Darksiders II, players take the controls as Death, another of the Horsemen. With his twin scythes, Death promises to be a more agile fighter than the soldier-like War, with dodge taking the focus over War’s block-and-strike style of fighting.

Once again, more weapons will become available to players as they proceed throughout the game. Weapons and armor provide players with the ability to customize Death’s appearance, and a branching skill-tree will allow for a custom style of play through both active and passive abilities.

Darksiders II is approaching fast, and we here at GKick are getting pretty excited to get our hands on it. The game was originally slated for release on June 26th, but was delayed to allow for “additional time for polish.” Darksiders II hits stores August 21st.
